At the University of Yaoundé I, the voice is an instrument of excellence and unity. Beyond individual performances, choral singing plays a prominent role in the campus’s cultural life and in enhancing the institution’s reputation, both nationally and internationally. From lecture halls to stages around the world, our choristers proudly represent UYI.
The Glorious Voices: An international showcase
If there is one ensemble that embodies the artistic excellence of Ngoa-Ekelle, it is undoubtedly The Glorious Voices. This internationally renowned university choir serves as a true cultural ambassador for Cameroon. Renowned for the purity of its harmonies, the richness of its repertoire—which blends sacred songs, classical pieces, and traditional African music—and the precision of its performances, the choir masterfully accompanies all major academic ceremonies and proudly represents UYI at festivals and competitions around the world.
The vitality of college choirs
Choral singing is a vibrant part of campus life. Nearly every university and prestigious institution has its own vocal groups. These faculty choirs enliven campus life on a daily basis (at graduation ceremonies, thesis defenses, and celebrations). They serve as a tremendous breeding ground for talent, where students learn the discipline of polyphonic singing and the spirit of camaraderie.
